<p>A big hurdle for most people to get over when considering body weight workouts for fitness is the question of, &#8220;How can a body weight workout routine replace one that uses weight training and machines?&#8221;</p>
<p>It is easy to see how psychology can be an obstacle in trying to help people understand that properly structured bodyweight workouts can be better than traditional weight-lifting and exercise machine workouts. Traditional workouts offer many variations, almost endless actually. When people get into the &#8216;health club mentality&#8217; of only being able to workout with equipment, weights and machines, they set themselves up for many episodes of &#8216;falling off the program&#8217; and failing. Bodyweight workouts eliminate this excuse.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s an example where bodyweight workouts are a million times more effective than regular old gym workouts. You go on vacation or you go out of town on business, or maybe to visit family for several days. So many times these events become excuses for people not sticking to their fitness plan because they &#8216;couldn&#8217;t go to a gym&#8217;. With a well-rounded, bodyweight workout program this excuse is not valid.</p>
<p>The right body weight workouts can be done anywhere and anytime. They can be done at home, the office, a fiend&#8217;s house or even on a play-ground. And in terms of effectiveness &#8211; I can only say through personal experience with my own bodyweight workouts and those of the people who I have trained that when planned properly and followed consistently, bodyweight workouts can be even more effective than most weight lifting or machine based workout programs.</p>
<p>Body weight workouts offer &#8216;fitness veterans&#8217; &#8211; a refreshing, eye-opening alternative to the those repetitive weight and machine training programs. Even more importantly, bodyweight workouts offer sedentary fitness beginners a safe, non-intimidating and effective method for starting a home based fitness program with a high probability for success.</p>
<p>Whether you are just beginning or you&#8217;ve been &#8216;pumping the weights&#8217; for  some time now, give some consideration to the benefits and advantages of properly structured body weight workouts and how they can help you move forward in your fitness and conditioning goals. Open up your mind to the possibility of a bodyweight workout being a part of your overall fitness plan and see what happens. You&#8217;ll be very pleased and maybe a bit surprised with the results you experience.</p>

<p>There are two main steps in the process of developing a firm, flat and defined stomach. These are weight loss and the strengthening of the abdominal muscles.</p>
<p>Weight Loss: It is common belief that abdominal exercises are the most important means of obtaining a six pack; however this is not the case.</p>
<p>Before your abdominal muscles are able to show, you must lose weight. Abdominal muscles will only become visible when a minimal fat to muscle ratio exists in the body. Weight loss is achievable through altering the diet to eliminate excess sources of fat and a variety of weight loss activities and exercise.</p>
<p>In the particular case of developing a six pack, weight loss actually refers to a reduction in the amount of body fat a person has stored. It is essential to reduce the amount of body fat, as fat stores will only serve to cover the abdominal muscles, thus preventing them from being viewed.</p>

<p>In many cases, despite following a strict regimen for diet and exercise, many people are still unable to develop a six pack. <p>The process of obtaining or trying to obtain the stereotypical perfect flat abs is long and does require a high level of commitment. Before embarking on this quest, it is best to think about your reasons for wanting a defined abdominal region and weather a six pack will change your life for the better.</p>
<p>In many cases, even if a six pack is not possible, weight loss and a better looking and feeling body will be so diet and exercise are definitely beneficial and should not be discarded in the event that a six pack cannot be achieved.</p>

Whether it be the thighs, hips, or that uppermost region of the back part of the leg &#8211; the butt &#8211; it seems that the legs and derriere of women are always a work in progress. Here are 3<strong> womens exercises </strong>for toning the legs and butt that get results and can be done in the comfort of your own home:</p>
<p><strong><em>Squats </em></strong>are great bodyweight exercises. They isolate the major muscle groups of your upper legs and butt, as well as a variety of stabilizer muscles. The basic squat can be done by standing with your feet shoulder with apart, with back straight, head looking up (not down), hands behind head, and, keeping your weight centered over your legs with your heels on the ground, slowly bend at the knees until your upper legs and butt are parallel to the ground. Hold that position for a moment and then slowly return to your starting position.</p>
<p>Squats can be done in a variety of ways, including changing the distance between your feet, or doing them with your back against a wall. Changing your stance will target different parts your thigh (inner and outer). Doing them with your back against the wall helps with balance and form. These are great womens exercises for targeting the whole leg.</p>
<p><strong><em>Lunges</em></strong> are also fantastic exercises for toning the legs. Start in a standing position with your feet just slightly apart. Keep your weight well-centered so you do not lose your balance. Take a long stride forward with either leg until the knee of your opposite leg barely touches the ground, hold position for just a moment, and shift your weight backwards, returning to your starting upright position. Then repeat with your opposite leg. This will really target your thighs (front and back) and your backside.</p>
<p><strong><em>Butt Exercise.</em></strong> This one is pretty much self-explanatory. It targets the butt. Lie down with your back on the floor, and your arms by your side. Keep one leg extended and flat on the floor, while the other is bent with your heel planted on the floor (toes pointing up). Push your planted heel into the floor, lifting your hips and extended leg off the floor at the same time. So your back, butt, hips, and extended leg are all off the floor and you are balanced on your shoulders area (uppermost back) and your planted heel. Then slowly lower your butt, hips, and leg back down to the floor. Then alternate legs and repeat.</p>
<p>Several other womens exercises you can do to tone, firm, and shape your legs are walking, running, jumping rope, bike riding/spinning, and walking/running stairs or hills. Another great exercise for the entire leg and derriere is the step-up. You will need a sturdy bench, chair, or anything stable enough to step up onto and then down again with repetition. And then you do just that. Alternating legs, you step up onto the object, bringing both feet up, then you step down. You can do this slowly or quickly. You will “feel the burn” and your legs will get a dynamic workout, and it can really get your heart pumping.</p>
<p>If you do the 3 core womens exercises for toning legs and butts as outlined above, you will be well on your way to seeing some significant differences. Plus, they are all safe bodyweight exercises, that can be done without equipment and in the privacy of your own home. Now all you have to do is get started.</p>

<p>The key to effective &amp; permanent body toning lies within the definition of the word itself. In short, it means to form, reshape  and modify the composition of the body that you currently have. The main focus being on fat-reduction/skin tightening and muscle firming (maybe even a little bit of muscle building). Unfortunately, there are many myths and mis-perceptions that put a more confusing, and often times harmful, meaning behind the simple concept of body toning.</p>
<p>Print ads, radio advertisements and television commercials trying to push the latest fitness gizmos, spas selling body-wrap treatments, hardcore personal trainers delivering painful &amp; time consuming &#8216;weights and machines&#8217; type exercise programs and even supplement companies marketing body toning pills are all trying to tap into the emotional pain zones in people of all ages, body types and fitness levels to make more sales without delivering the desired results as safely as possible with as little cost as possible.</p>
<p>In speaking of cost, I not only speak of financial loss but also the loss of one&#8217;s self confidence and trust in others who are supposed to be helping and not taking unfair advantage of people in desperate or uncertain circumstances. When hopes are dashed by continuous failure, the spirit tends to get worn down.</p>
<p>But let not your hopes be crushed here because effective, safe and permanent body toning can in fact be achieved without a health club membership, without expensive visits to a &#8216;skin-wrapping&#8217; clinic, without fraudulent or harmful &#8216;diet&#8217; supplements and, most of all, without painful and time consuming workout sessions.</p>
<p>As a career fitness pro and trainer I&#8217;ve had the great opportunity to work with many people coming from different life situations, physical abilities, fitness levels, and most importantly, emotional starting points. This history of experience has taught me what the books can&#8217;t teach.</p>
<p>As each brought their own definition of body toning into the evaluation process it helped me realize that all people have their own personal definition of what it would mean for them to be in great physical condition. Some want to lose weight while getting firmer and stronger. Some want to maintain weight and tone up with shapelier, curvier muscles. Some want to build up certain body areas, such as the butt and thighs or core and shoulders and add a little bit of healthy body weight in the process.</p>
<p>What most people do not understand is the method by which their goals can be achieved is quite realistic and surprisingly simple as compared to what they previously thought they knew or had been told. Weights, machines and &#8216;bodybuilder&#8217; type workouts are not for everyone. This type of fitness routine is not realistic for most people &#8211; let alone busy people with careers and/or families. Being young and single may allow for this consuming, almost obsessed, type of lifestyle. But as we develop careers and grow our families, spending 2 hours in the gym every day is not a realistic or healthy routine.</p>
<p>By utilizing a wide choice of body toning exercises with some simple fitness tools (mat, exercise ball, step), a you can make consistent progress in your specific fitness and body toning goals. Form, tempo, sequence and progression are all underutilized variables in the workout routines of many fitness seekers. By using these misunderstood variables and crafting a body toning program that can be done literally anywhere and anytime, (such as at home when the kids are asleep or before getting ready for work) most of the excuses and obstacles that would prevent long term fitness success are erased.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s every woman&#8217;s dream; shapely hip muscles. From a human anatomy point of view, women tend to have larger hips relative to the waist (unlike men) since women tend to store higher amounts of body fat in the hip, buttocks and thighs.</p>
<p>Each person is different and fat gets stored in the body in a certain order. That order is determined by gender and genetics. It&#8217;s a myth that women can selectively lose fat in the hip region. In fact, &#8216;spot reduction&#8217; is something that advertisers use to prey on unsuspecting customers desperate to try anything to shape up certain areas of the body. You have probably wasted time and money on gadgets, weight loss creams and other gimmicks. When one loses weight, the &#8216;reduction&#8217; is general i.e all over the body, but never in one &#8216;spot&#8217;. Think of the body as if it was a balloon, which inflates and deflates every time, you gain / lose weight.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the good news: specific exercises for the hip, as outlined below will help tone the hip muscles (but not spot reduce them). The following exercise routine has been designed to tone the hip muscles. It works best when combined with an aerobic exercise program and a healthy diet.</p>
<p>Combining hip toning exercises with a well rounded aerobic exercise and weight training program requires more energy and more strength. Your body responds to high intensity exercises by adding lean muscle. This increases the rate at which the body burns calories and helps use up excess stored fat. You can burn more calories by doing a variety of activities, and mixing up the exercises, intensity and duration every 2-3 weeks. All weight training exercises are not created equal. Exercises that involve large muscle groups such as squats and lunges for your legs, bench presses for your chest, overhead presses for your shoulders and lat pull-downs for your back build more muscle mass. A combination of cardiovascular exercise and weight lifting will make you stronger and leaner. This kind of effort takes time, but the results are permanent.</p>
<p>The following routine has been specially designed for toning hip muscles. For best results, start with 15-20 repetitions and one set. Increase gradually to 2 sets. Complete the routine at least 2 times a week and you will see results within the first few weeks. These numbers are general guidelines. For best results, consult a personal trainer. If you have any injuries or medical ailments, please obtain a physicians clearance before starting any exercise program.</p>
<p>Side Lying Hip Raises: Hip toning. <br />
Starting Position: Lie on your left side on a mat with the legs straight. Support your heard in your hands and keep the left leg bent. Movement: Slowly raise the right leg 8-12 inches up in the air, keeping the knee straight. Lower it gradually. Complete 15-20 repetitions and repeat on the opposite side. To make this exercise harder, you can try using weight cuffs around the ankles. Start with 1 lb and work your way up to 5 lbs within 4-6 weeks. Another way to make the exercise harder is to raise the leg and then trace large circles clockwise 10 times, followed by another 10 repetitions anticlockwise.</p>
<p>Seated Hip Toning: Hip toning. <br />
Starting Position: Sit on an exercise matt with your legs together and your palms on the matt for support. Movement: Lift your right foot 8-12 inches off of the matt. Point your toes and moving only at your ankle trace a large circle in the air. Complete fifteen circles clockwise and fifteen circles counter clockwise. Repeat as required on other side. To make this exercise harder, you can try using weight cuffs around the ankles. Start with 1 lb and work your way up to 5 lbs within 4-6 weeks. Another way to make the exercise harder is to trace smaller circles.</p>
<p>Standing Single Leg Wall Squat (Advanced): Hip And Thigh Toning.<br />
This is an advanced exercise since it shapes the hips and thighs. Starting Position: &#8211; Place your upper back against a smooth wall. Stand on one foot and lean back against the wall. Movement: &#8211; Inhale, keeping your heel in contact with the floor at all times, slowly lower into a squat position while sliding down the wall. Exhale as you slowly straighten your leg, keeping your head and chest up, returning to the starting position. Repeat as required. This is an advanced exercise. Please discontinue the exercises if you have any pain and consult a physician prior to this exercise routine if you have a history of hip or knee pain.</p>
<p>Standing Single Leg Dumbbell Squats (Advanced): Hip And Thigh Toning. <br />
Starting Position:- Stand on one leg with a slight bend in your knees. Hold a dumbbell in each hand and allow them to hang down at your sides. Movement: &#8211; Inhale, keeping your heel in contact with the floor at all times, slowly lower into a squat position. Exhale as you slowly straighten your leg, keeping your head and chest up, returning to the starting position. Repeat as required. You can start with 2 lb dumbbells and work your way up to 5 lbs within 3-4 weeks.</p>
<p>Lying Leg Bridge: Hip Toning. <br />
Starting Position:- On an exercise matt, lie with your feet on a plank or a board with a 4-6 inch elevation. Keep the knees bent and both feet flat on the floor. Lay your hands on the matt palms down on either side of your body for support. Movement: &#8211; Exhale as you push your hips up into the air, keeping your spine straight. Hold this position as long as you can, continuously keeping your hips in the air. Lower slowly. Repeat for 15 to 20 repetitions.</p>
<p>Lying Face Down Plank: Hip, Thigh And Ab Toning. <br />
Starting Position: Get on an exercise matt on all fours, with your elbows touching the matt directly underneath your shoulders. Extend your legs back as far as you can, and keep the toes on the floor. Movement: Raise the hips up and hold yourself in this &#8216;plank position&#8217; with your back completely flat. This is an excellent exercise for the hips, thighs and abdominal muscles. Since it involves so many muscles, it is strenuous in nature. Lower the hips slowly down to the mat. Repeat for 15-20 repetitions. (Most individuals find it hard to complete 15-20 reps for this exercise and 8-10 might be a more suitable starting point).</p>
